MLB POST SEASON PREVIEW

Angels vs. Red Sox

Is this the year the Angels finally get their win over their post season rival Red sox?

This is yet another tough match-up with plenty of recent history behind it, though the history has been in the sole favor of the Red Sox.

Since 2004, the Angels have failed to get past the Red Sox in 3 attempts, including the last 2 post seasons. What’s shocking to us is that the 2009 Angels might arguably be better than last years. Yes. We know that’s crazy to think.
Pitching Match-ups
Lackey vs. Lester in game one is a tough choice for sure. Lackey hasn’t been spectacular, but we like the Angels to be more fired up and win game 1. They NEED to win game 1.
However, the series turns from there. We like Beckett to beat out Weaver in game 2, which will be a close game, but the Red Sox will even the series on their way back to Boston.

From there, however, it all goes down hill for the Angels. The Red Sox have Kazmir’s number as badly as they have the Angels. There goes game 3.

Now, Boston’s projected starter isn’t listed for game 4, but with Saunders on the mound in Boston, it’s looking like 3 straight post-season series losses for the Angels to the Red Sox.

Sorry Brian and “L.A.”

Red Sox OVER Angels 3-1

Phillies vs. Rockies

The quietest match-up of the post season for sure.

We acknowledge first that the series could go either way. We believe the Phillies are better on paper, but their pitching is what throws us off. They’ll throw Lee in game 1, which is almost a lock at home, but Hamels isn’t anymore. Maybe Happ in game 3?

However, the Rockies are batting well, but they’ll most likely face 3 straight lefties and the Rockies have struggled against LHP’s this year. Helton is the only notable, batting .311 against LHP’s. Brad Hawpe, one of the Rockies best hitters, is only hitting .230 against LHP’s. Tulowitski’s hasn’t done that well either.

As for the Phillies bats, they’re loaded. Howard, Werth, Rollins, Feliz, Victorino, and Utley are the highlights of the line-up. They’ll do well, but we’re leaning on pitching for the series.

We love Cliff Lee to win game 1, but Hamels to lose game 2. Since the series will be hugely based on game 3, we like Happ to get shaken up on the road in such a crucial game.

Happ’s good, don’t get us wrong, but he’s inexperienced and the Rockies will be pumped to play in Denver.

Game 4, we like Marquis to win it and take the series from the reigning champs.

Rockies OVER Phillies 3-1

Yankees vs. Twins

Terrible. Yankees are already looking ahead. We know this because they chose to play tomorrow, as opposed to Thursday.

Game 1 and 2 are locks. We don’t foresee the Yanks tanking at home, especially with C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett on the mound.

Game 3 is a toss up. The Twins will be desperate for a win and will take it in front of an equally pumped crowd. Pettite will probably lose the game to the fired up Twins squad.

However, game 4 won’t prove anything else but the Yankee’s dominance. We like Joba to take game 4 and for the Yanks to face the Red Sox in the ALCS.

Yankees OVER Twins 3-1

As for our World Series match-up prediction?

We both agree it will be the Yankees vs. Dodgers.

Yankees win in 6.

The 2009 MLB Postseason is filled with incredible storylines, a couple cinderellas, and several powerhouses. This October has the potential to be a classic, maybe one of the best ever. Check back to Talk at the Urinal for more updates as October rolls.

Oh, and go Dodgers!

You guys are doing some good stuff here.

I think the Phillies have too much starting pitching for the Rockies to get by, easier said now that we saw game 1...that said, if the Rockies can find a way to beat the whining Cole Hamels and steal game 2, they stand a great chance to win 3 and 4 at Piss-Water Field in Denver.

Yankees have way too much riding on the year to be outed in the first round...though the Angels and Red Sox both present problems for New York.

I was thinking Cardinals over the Doyers, but if they can't beat Randy Wolf with Carpenter on the bump, I don't know what's going on there. (I say this knowing you are doyer supporters!) I think if the Cardinals steal game 2, they go on to win this series and the next to make it to the World Series.

Ultimately, I think the AL winner, which I think will be the Yankees will win it all...but I pray to the good Lord that doesn't happen...

Rockies got that split that they wanted. We were hoping for a split for the Dodgers at home. I'll take both games I love it! Ya Yankees are tough man, and I know I don't really want it to happen either.
