FAVRE, NHL, NBA, CY YOUNG AND MVP PICKS, and DODGERS

32 Teams later...

on MNF no less, and Brett Favre has done something, yet again, that no other player in NFL history has done.

Brett has managed to beat every team in the league, topping it off so fittingly against the team that he beat all the other 31 teams with, the Green Bay Packers.

They betrayed him. They let him go. His heart was shattered. Tonight, though he didn't state it, was all for revenge.

Tonight Brett succeeded, but the Packers didn't lose lightly. In fact, the world saw what Aaron Rodgers can do in the clutch, especially after 8 sacks, and possibly why the Packers got rid of Favre.

We here at Talk At The Urinal would like to congratulate Favre on having another spectacular performance on MNF all while beating his beloved Packers. Revenge is always sweet, but Favre's passer rating was even better.

These are our NFL picks for the recent weekend:
Eric: 8-6
Jon: 10-4

Another good set of picks this weekend. I know Blatz is getting into the double-digits again next weekend. Mark Sanchez was turned human for the first time this weekend against the Saints. Crabtree's talking to the Niners once again. Interesting to note that the Niners are currently 3-1, and a miracle throw away from being undefeated.

Speaking of undefeated, 4 teams are now 4-0 for the first time in NFL history. We think the Giants are the best undefeated team right now. The Colts are 2nd, but we know the Broncos have just gotten away with wins against terrible teams. We almost guarantee they'll be under .500 over the rest of their 12 games.

College Picks of the weekend:
Eric: 14-3
Jon: 15-2

Great picks this weekend. SC looked good against Cal. UCLA lost a tough one up in Palo Alto.

As for this weekend, there are some questions that arise: Is LSU for real? What will Florida play like with or without Tebow? Will he be as aggressive as he's been his whole career if he does play? Will Sam Bradford finally come back this Saturday? Should Nebraska and Missouri really be ranked? Interesting things to look out for College Football this weekend.

The 2009-10 NHL season has begun and our beloved Kings were killed 6-3 Saturday against the Gretskyless 'Yote's. However, they'll find a way to bounce back... or so we think... Jonathan Quick is going to have step up in a big way FAST.

And last, but definitely not least...

IT'S OCTOBER... AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!

KOBE'S BACK! LEBRON'S BACK! THEY'RE ALL BACK, PLUS SOME NEWBIES, TO KICK OFF THE 2009-10 NBA SEASON.

Is it going to be the Lakers again in the West? Possibly facing off against the Celtics in June? Or will Shaq and LeBron have something to say about that? Will the Spurs be back to contest the Lakers? Or is it going to be the young teams: Blazers, Grizzlies, Thunder?

We will answer all these questions and more in our exclusive NBA preview. Look forward to it later this month.

October, however, brings us a special time every year.

It's the MLB Postseason!

Before the analysis however, let's see our MVP and Cy Young award winners.

NL
Cy Young: Adam Wainwright due to most innings pitched and most wins in the NL.
MVP: Albert Pujols. No question. Solid all year.

AL (It gets a little tougher here)
Cy Young: Zach Grienke due to lowest ERA on a terrible Royals squad.
MVP: Joe Mauer. Solid year, but was injured. He still managed to put up .364 to lead the AL... he's a catcher... A CATCHER.

Now to the playoff match-ups!

Dodgers vs. Cardinals
This is a tough match-up for so many reasons. Obviously the Cardinals are the favorites going into it: 2 of the top-3 NL Cy Young candidates, the projected MVP Albert Pujols, as well as Matt Holliday, Ryan Ludwick, and Rick Ankiel. We didn't even mention that they man-handled the Dodgers all season long, winning the season series 5-2.

As for the Dodgers, they do have better overall batting than the Cards do, but how far will that get them? Pitching is key in the playoffs and pitching for the Dodgers is currently one big question mark. Is it going to be our "ace" Kershaw, who finished the season at 8-8? Or will Chad Billingsly step-up when it counts? Jon Garland is our sleeper pitcher. Padilla and Wolf won't be terrible. The Dodgers bats will have to step up in order to beat the Cards.

The series will come down to a few different aspects. It's not a given that Wainwright and Carpenter can beat the Dodgers on the road in L.A. The Dodgers will be much more alive than they've been and they will be out to prove to their fans that they are for real. If the Dodgers can split games against the Card's aces, then we like the series to go all the way and for the DODGERS TO WIN 3-2.
