Oudin, Quinn, Bradford, and Allen.

Melanie Oudin is only 17 years old, but has wisdom beyond her years. Currently playing 19 year old Caroline Wozniacki, Melanie seems to be having trouble starting the match, but in the last 3 rounds, she’s lost the first set before correcting herself. Regardless of what the outcome of this match is, what Melanie has done is incredible. On her way to becoming the youngest American quarter-finalist since Serena Williams, Melanie took out two previous U.S. Open champions, including former #1 Maria Sharapova. No more need to worry about who will replace Serena and Venus as the next great American tennis stars, Melanie Oudin's got it covered.

On the men’s draw, the Andy’s have been taken out, and it’s looking good for a Federer/Nadal final. Djokovic will be tough however, and will never go down without a fight.

Brady Quinn was named the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback today. It was announced earlier today that both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn were told the decision, but that they must keep it a secret. The secret didn’t last long obviously. Brady was a first round draft pick a couple years ago for the Browns, so it makes sense that they go with him over Derek Anderson, who had a fabulous season a couple seasons back. Brady has shown signs of talent, but I still feel as if neither QB really showed who wanted it more.

In the world of College Football, Oklahoma is reeling right now over the loss of TE Jermaine Gresham for the season. The news comes at the same time they find out that they will lose Heisman-winning QB Sam Bradford for a couple weeks. After their opening game loss against BYU, Oklahoma, a team considered in the national championship picture again, will definitely have a down season. I do see them beating Miami with Bradford back, but as for Texas, well, let’s just say Colt McCoy and the Longhorns will get yet another win in that rivalry. The only Oklahoma team we’ll be talking about for now is OK State.

In the NBA, Allen Iverson agreed to a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. AI, clearly in an attempt to start, joined a team that, I believe, has a lot of young talent. On paper, the Memphis Grizzlies might be the one of the best teams of great college players ever, but in the NBA has struggled. AI will definitely make them better, maybe even playoff better. I’m just not sure how the chemistry will get disrupted, or how they’ll try to use Allen.

Memphis picked up some good rookies in the draft including Sam Young, DeMarre Carroll, and the highly anticipated Hasheem Thabeet. They’ll join Mike Conley, Jr., Marc Gasol, O.J. Mayo, Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay and Darrell Arthur. That’s a lot of young talent. AI might become a great leader for them or he’ll just do what he’s always done and hog the ball. Regardless though, his presence is only a positive.
